ST LUKES HOSPICE
Sunday 7th May saw Lewtrenchard open up its gate for its annual ‘Open Garden’ event. Lewtrenchard works with St Luke’s Hospice volunteers in order to raise money for the charity. With all fundraising and open days, you’re never truly aware of just how many people may turn up; it could be as few as 50 on some occasions. This year blew all expectations out of the park; with a staggering 407 through the door, not including the children (who entered free)!
Of those 407, each was charged an entrance fee of £5 by the charity. This generated a total of £2037 for the charity, a total success! Whilst the event was a huge hit, it must be noted that the cars were running out of places to park. Resorting to parking on the road meant that staff members had to park ten minutes up the road!
All Hands On Deck
Another star of the day was a little boy who was selling merchandise for the charity. He managed to raise an astounding £74.50, which he should be proud of. Without people like him, the charity would be unable to function and it shows that no matter what age you are, you can make a real difference.
The raffle also proved to be immensely popular, raising £198. A £10 donation was also given in here, which is always nice to see. The queues were astronomical on all parts; from the entrance to the raffle to the refreshments! At one point the refreshment line was through two rooms and out the door. Unfortunately, the huge numbers meant that we were constantly in short supply and the staff worked hard to keep everything ticking over. It even saw us run out of jam, which caused a rather different sticky situation!
Again, Lewtrenchard would like to thank all who attended the event and thank them for helping to raise such a huge amount for St Luke’s Hospice. Your support of both the hotel and the charity is
invaluable and makes such a difference. Altogether, the grand total of fundraising was £2319.50.
Certainly a figure to be proud of!
Well done to all involved!
