Purple Carrot at Lewtrenchard Manor
Posted on 23/06/2008

Purple Carrot at Lewtrenchard ManorA unique dining experience for the South West like no other!

In May, Lewtrenchard Manor launched “Purple Carrot” a unique private dining experience, providing guests the opportunity to enjoy dining with an exclusive view of the 3 rosette kitchen.

von Essen has invested £200,000 on a state-of-the-art kitchen at Lewtrenchard Manor which includes the development of Purple Carrot, together with its own fine wine cellar. “Purple Carrot” will provide diners with an unforgettable culinary experience, including a personalised menu for each group of gastronomes, champagne at the Chef’s bar, and an extraordinary insight into the workings of a world-class kitchen – seeing and hearing the charismatic Chef Patron, Jason Hornbuckle and his team in action. Quite simply, the ultimate experience for food and wine lovers.

Activity in the kitchen will be captured on cameras in strategic positions, which will then be viewed on a large flat screen TV in front of the diners. Guests will also be able to “peak” into the kitchen via a window from the wine cellar and the Chef’s Table bar at the entrance to the room. Between courses, guests will have the opportunity to interact with the chefs in the kitchen. One of the eight courses will be cooked in the room and guests will be encouraged to ask questions and seek expert tips.

Lewtrenchard Manor is delighted to have secured sponsorship of the wine cellar through Bibendum wines. Sourcing a partner on the wine side who could match Jason’s absolute passion for food was no mean feat but the team at Bibendum’s enthusiasm for wine knows no bounds and their ability to superbly match wines from around the world to Jason’s unique menu’s will further enhance the guests culinary experience.

Chef Patron, Jason Hornbuckle who has trained with some of the world’s greatest chefs and who’s passion is for this project is evident said, “It has been a dream since becoming Chef Patron to establish Lewtrenchard Manor as a gastronomic destination in the South West and developing the idea of a Chef’s Table concept will allow us to offer our guests something truly unique and unforgettable”.

Why call it Purple Carrot? - purple carrots were the original colour of carrots along with red and white – they were first introduced to this country in the 15th century. The orange pigment was introduced to make it more acceptable in society as it was recognized as a good, cheap source of vegetable.

Calling the room Purple Carrot emphasizes Lewtrenchard’s philosophy about food “going back to nature and “roots” in its purest form – 80% of produce used in the Lewtrenchard kitchen comes directly from the kitchen garden. Purple carrots are being grown in the garden and will feature on the menu.

Purple Carrot will be available to book on Friday and Saturday evenings from mid May 2008. Prices from £95.00 per person including champagne on arrival and canapés.
