Gardens receive deserved acclaim after winning top twenty most attractive gardens in the UK and Ireland.
Lewtrenchard Manor, in Okehampton, one of Devon’s best-known hotels has recently been voted as one of the twenty most attractive hotel gardens in the UK and Ireland by the RAC.
Set beneath the wild tors of Dartmoor, Lewtrenchard Manor is a charming hotel set amidst twelve acres of peaceful gardens designed by Walter Sorel and with influences from Gertrude Jekyll.
The RAC award evaluates the gardens and grounds surrounding the hotels and RAC spokesman Rob Maynard quoted: “Consistently improving standards in the UK and Irish hospitality industry are reflected in the care lavished on many grounds and gardens, with the setting and environment increasingly seen as integral parts of a guest’s overall experience”.
He added: “Lewtrenchard Manor’s beautiful gardens will give keen gardeners something to admire – and aspire to – and the rest of us a great deal of pleasure.”
Lewtrenchard Manor’s gardens include streams and ponds, fountains and statuary, sunken lawns and a profusion of shrubs, plus a huge rustic dovecote and a recently restored walled vegetable garden. Also featured is “Madam’s Walk”, an avenue of splendid Beech trees, as well as picturesque walks around the heavily wooded lake and along the banks of the River Lew.
